Ensuring a Perfect Fit: A Guide to Measuring Your Soap Mold
Because a mat that fits perfectly makes all the difference.
One of the things I love most about what I do is that every mat I make is sized to your mold — no trimming, no fussing, just lay it in and go. But to make that happen, I need one thing from you: your measurements! This guide will walk you through exactly how to get them. It's easier than you think, I promise! 🧼
What You'll Need
Just a flexible measuring tape and your mold! I always recommend measuring in centimeters — it gives you a much more precise reading, and precision is everything when it comes to a perfect fit.
What to Measure
I only need two measurements: the interior length and the interior width of your mold. That's it — no depth needed! We're measuring the space where your soap actually forms, so we want the inside dimensions, not the outside of the box.
Pro tip: Use a small piece of painter's tape to anchor the end of your measuring tape to the mold so it doesn't shift while you're taking your reading!
Measuring a Silicone Liner in a Wooden Box
If your silicone mold sits inside a wooden box, here's an important tip: measure your silicone liner while it's sitting inside the box. A silicone mold on its own can flex and bow outward, which means you might get a larger measurement than what the mold actually holds when it's supported. Measuring it in place gives you the truest size!
Start with the length — anchor your tape at one end and measure straight down the interior of the liner to the other end.
Measure the interior length of your silicone liner while it's sitting inside the wooden box.
Then measure the width — same idea, wall to wall across the short side of the liner interior.
Then measure the interior width — anchor your tape and measure straight across.
Measuring a Wooden Loaf Mold (No Liner)
If you're using a bare wooden mold without a liner, measure the interior of the mold itself — straight along the bottom where your mat will lay flat. Same deal: length first, then width, tape anchored with a small piece of painter's tape so it doesn't wander on you.
For a bare wooden mold, measure the interior length and width along the bottom of the mold.
Measuring a Slab or Tray Mold
For a slab or tray style mold, lay your measuring tape flat against the interior bottom and measure wall to wall — length first, then width. Easy!
Slab and tray molds are measured the same way — interior length and interior width along the bottom.
Quick Recap ✅
- Measure the interior of your mold — not the outside
- You need length and width only — no depth needed for an impresion mat
- Measure in centimeters to the nearest decimal for the best fit
- If your silicone liner sits inside a wooden box, measure it while it's in the box
- Anchor your tape with a small piece of painter's tape so it doesn't shift
- When in doubt, measure twice! 😄
Once you have your two measurements, just pop them into the customization box at checkout and I'll take it from there! If something ever doesn't look right when your mat arrives, please reach out — I always want to make it right. 🧡
